Church Musician

Melissa Sky-Eagle played her first church piano solo on September 30, 1987. She performed “Minuet in G,” by J. S. Bach. During her formative years, Melissa traveled and performed with her parents in the family’s world-wide music ministry. She has played in hundreds of churches from New York to California. She has also performed in Europe, South America, the Middle East, Africa, and Jamaica.

At the age of sixteen, Melissa was offered her first church staff position as the pianist for the Highland Baptist Church of Dallas, TX. She played for congregational worship, choral groups and choir rehearsals, vocalists, instrumentalists and handbells. She also played offertories and preludes for the church’s “blended” worship services.

During her freshman year at Texas Christian University, Melissa became the pianist for Springdale Baptist Church of Fort Worth, TX. For three years, she played the keyboard for the church’s contemporary worship with the Praise Band. This gave her the opportunity to develop her skills of improvisation and chord chart reading. During her senior year at TCU, she played the piano for the South Hills Christian Church of Fort Worth, a Disciples of Christ congregation. The church had a traditional liturgical worship style.

While a graduate student in piano performance at The Peabody Conservatory of Music of The Johns Hopkins University, Dr. Sky-Eagle was the accompanist for the Singing Baptist Women of Maryland-Delaware. The group performed concerts at conventions and conferences, as well as in local churches.

During that time, Melissa also recorded and released her “Piano Worship and Praise” album. It is a moving collection of timeless hymns of the church and contemporary praise music.

After moving to Southern California in 2003, Melissa played for the Bel Air Presbyterian Church and the United University Church on the USC campus. She has served as church pianist for El Segundo United Methodist Church, El Segundo, CA, United Methodist Church of La Mirada, La Mirada, CA, Calvary Chapel Old Towne of Orange, CA, and Tapestry, a Unitarian Universalist Congregation, Lake Forest, CA. She currently serves as the Music Director/Pianist/Organist for the Chapel Hill United Methodist Church of Farmers Branch, TX.

Dr. Sky-Eagle taught graduate and undergraduate piano performance majors and music majors at California Baptist University, in addition to her private piano studio in Los Angeles, CA. Many of her college students now serve as worship leaders, ministers of music, church pianists and keyboardists.

Dr. Melissa Sky-Eagle is available to perform for your church’s worship services, revival/crusade services, banquet and other special events.
